no you dont need to finish the game. i got death somewhere in blackwater he may spawn somewhere in the map if you are lucky. as you can see i am not a zombie in the game :P

@Jettset24 you get the unicorn after killing the chubacabra (wich you can only kill after done the 5th undead hunter rank) easiest way to find the unicorn after killing the chubacabra is to go up a high place in mexico ( i guess it only spawn in mexico) and search for something strange runing through the wasteland of mexico it will mostly be there when you go there. (but you dont get the blood pact for it when you find it. when it dies its gone forever it will not spawn a new one:P)

@Jettset24 You get blood pact after finding and breaking all of the four horses of the apocalypse. If your horse die when you dont have all the horses don't worry when you find all horses you get blood pact and you can call back your horse from the dea!:D

question, once you have found all four can you respond them if they so accidentally died
