Thank you! I've been trying to decide between both of these tents and being able to see them side by side was helpful. I have a really big dog, so definitely going for the Copper Spur.

Thanks Rod. Having a similar dilemma myself and this was really helpful.

You should be comparing the Fly Creek UL4 to the Copper Spur UL3. The weights are similar and the square footage as well. More comparable I think. And tougher decision.

Good review. The Kelty Trail Ridge 3 is in this class as well, costing about $200. I like the dual doors / vestibules. BTW, nice looking neighborhood and dog.

The Kelty Trail Ridge looks like a nice tent indeed. But even though it has the same floor area of 44 sq feet and basically the same dimensions as the Copper Spur, the Kelty packed weight is 2 pounds heavier! (6 lbs. 5 oz. vs 4 lbs. 6 oz.) Those extra two pounds are killer during a backpacking trip. I believe that is the main reason for cost difference...lighter = $

With the HV versions of both tents out, I think the Fly Creek competes better.

Yeah that would have been a nice and more fair comparison. NOW you tell me! ;)

Thanks man. I tend to be a bit long winded, often repeating myself and sometimes I repeat myself.

Not even a close decision. Go with the Copper Spur for all the reasons you've mentioned. I think I'm gonna buy one as well. Painfully expensive, though.

Agreed and if I had to choose, the Copper Spur would be the winner. But for those on a budget and willing to split the weight between two hikers, the Trail Ridge is a compelling choice. I own a Grand Mesa 2, which in many ways is inferior to the Spur and Ridge, but it has served me well and was inexpensive (~ $120).
