TheScotsmanReturns No, I'm not dead. I'm not back either! I'm just kicking about in my own weird little way. I logged back in to post this. This past weekend was Awdry Extravaganza 5, the grandest finale of all grand finales. And having been there helping since the beginning, I can't help but feel a little misty eyed over the whole thing. Perhaps that's why I have returned (hehe) to post this. On this silly little YouTube channel with all its silly little videos. Because were it not for this channel, I would not have made friends with all these incredible people I am stupidly close with. I would not have gone to the university I went to, I would not have gone to drama school, and I would not be chasing the career I am chasing now. And yeah, without this channel, I doubt I would have gotten the chance to be a part of something as special as this. Getting to put together the exhibits, operate Wilbert's Ffarquhar layout, perform at the evening events, and last weekend even getting to host an interview with Ian McCue(!) And on top of all that, getting to do all that with some of my best mates. It's so surreal to think about, and I'm truly honoured. I also wanted to quickly mention you guys. It's no secret this channel has been inactive for quite a while, and yet so many of you came up to say hi, who knew my name, recognised my work. And given that I don't see myself as a known person in this fandom, it was really sweet. I really was not expecting or ready to sign so many books! I am proud of us purple shirts. We make a cracking crew. We came together and over several years, we learned, we grew, and we have successfully created this safe space for people to come around from all over the world, just to share the love we have for Wilbert and his work. It's a beautiful sense of community. The stress of trying to put together this event from all angles was immediately offset by seeing how happy everyone was there. I think endings are important. And I personally think that Awdry 5 is the right time and the right place for the "extravaganza" to bow out. But the lessons learned from these events will stick around. I think the value in creating this secure space for people to come together from all over and just be happy, that cannot be understated. And that will never go away. So with all that said, that might be it for the 'Awdry Extravaganza'. But we can always create another reason for fans to come together and celebrate. We will. Much love, TheScotsmanReturns (Mayo) x (8 months ago (edited))
