Hmm. I suppose I should probably share my thoughts on this little documentary since it’s out now.
Plus, I’m still kinda floored that a clip from my old videos was actually used in it. I legit don’t know if I should feel flattered, or shell shocked from the Vietnam flashbacks it gave me the second it grazed my screen.

Upon seeing the news of the passing of Britt Allcroft last night, this gave me the strength to briefly come back here, share my thoughts, & say my goodbyes. Because I won’t lie, this…really hurts…a lot.
The TV adaptation of Thomas the Tank Engine was an integral part of my childhood. And it wouldn’t have become that way had it not been for this amazing & visionary woman who made the original books come to life in such a unique way. It was my comfort media. Britt & her crew not only knew how to follow her vision to make her show engaging, but not once did it feel like I was being manipulated or talked down to while watching. She struck that proper balance to give the show universal appeal. The devotion & ingenuity she put into each episode’s production really made me believe that the Island of Sodor was a real place I could travel to & meet all the characters, even more so with Thomas & The Magic Railroad. The narrators she recruited were a major influence for me wanting to pursue voice acting. It was her passion for good storytelling that lead to me making this channel over 15 years ago where I could create & post my own stories with my own models/layout, slowly building my own production skills. It was her imagination that really sparked my own.
Before this channel, I used to wear my love of her work on my sleeve, but growing up I didn’t have any friends who shared that same love, and I got relentlessly bullied for it. MOAB became a safe haven that I felt I had to keep secret just to avoid ridicule while in high school & college. Shame became a big vice for me as a result. It hurt to feel ashamed for being an adult Thomas fan back then, and mind you this was before Bronies became a thing and definitely before shows like Bluey came to be. While I still have no intentions to begin uploading to this channel again as I have already given away/sold all my models & the layout back in 2017, I still kept my love for Britt’s work with me as the Thomas fandom began to change & grow while I moved on to other things outside of occasionally voicing bit parts for the TCC. As much as I adamantly despise looking back at my old videos as they have NOT aged well like, AT ALL; I will concede that producing for this channel was an important stepping stone in my life thanks to Britt’s influence on me & they did help me meet a small handful of close friends. One of them being

who is now roommates with me and my wife. I have even heavily debated back forth for the past few years whether I should just delete this channel as a way to move on from that admittedly awkward phase in my life as I really haven’t gotten over that trauma brought on by the shameful stigma the internet had back then. But nowadays, I’ve noticed that stigma has shifted significantly to where it’s become more tolerable to express your love for childish things like that and find your peers easier, which is nice. And it’s comforting to know Britt was so grateful to be an advocate for that love of her work, and show appreciation back to the people who appreciated her.
Britt’s unique creativity was what makes the classic seasons of Thomas stand the test of time, & part of me wishes I could’ve attended the screening of “An Unlikely Fandom” so I could personally thank her for all that she’s done; for as much my history with this channel had its ups and downs, I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for her. Publicly expressing my love for what she has brought to the world was difficult in the past, and while it may feel a bit easier now, that still doesn’t change how painful this loss is.
RIP Britt Allcroft. You really helped us follow the dream to a land of make believe🚂
