This guy is so damn difficult for me.. I have had 4 tries and he always manages to break the ship in the last 2 minutes ahh.

that's why i failed, i was concentrating too much on attacking him in the desert and forgot about actually defending the ship

Partly because Focus is handy for Dual Swords (demon meter charges faster) and Weakness Exploit is pretty handy for fighting Jhen since you get a lot of access to its weakspots. Also partly because I never really made any HR sets or any LR sets aside from Lagiacrus and Leather.

It's also worth pointing out that I deliberately chose not to bring in OP gear to show off the fight with on-rank gear. At this point, you could also do some other high rank stuff to buff up the gear that I was using, including doing some HR Barioth to upgrade the DSes or farm up set with more useful skills, like Azure Los' set.

This was my first Monster Hunter game, and I preordered it for my 3ds. Just now, I finally beat this mission after watching this walkthrough. Thanks for the detailed breakdown.

Yeah, H. Jhen has a somewhat different attack pattern, but it still follows the general pattern of showing up on the right, switching to the left, etc. Most notably, it starts off the fight with a face ram, so you need to be ready with the binder from the beginning.

nice guide man, im a veteran hunter, and this was pretty useful to me, since i'm fairly new to playing against jhen.

If you're bringing slime, you might as well make a bombardier and some other set. Your other skills would be dependent on what weapon you use. For instance, I'm using the Lagi set because DSes benefit from having Focus, and then Weakness Exploit is just handy in general for Jhen.

I'm really glad to see that you're using the dual swords I use! They're my favorite weapon and I didn't want to try to use something else. I'm getting kind of frustrated because I still can't kill or repel him. But I'm going to keep trying.

I want to say you need to break both for each, but I don't recall. so long as you pump out damage on the tusks in the first phase, especially with those Anti Dragon Bombs, you should be fine. You can also come into the quest with Large Barrel Bomb(+)s and set them up when he does the face ram (which was my intention before the Shakas detonated them).
